Passenger Train Services over Unusual Lines

listing regular passenger trains over obscure rail routes in the British Isles

2017

Compiled by Richard Maund

This page was first uploaded on 17 December 2016. Up-dated on 11 April 2017 - amendments recently incorporated are shown in red.

Unless otherwise indicated, trains operate from Sunday 11 December 2016 until Saturday 20 May 2017 when they will be subject to the summer and autumn timetable variations to carry the listing through until Saturday 9 December 2017. These changes - including timetabled engineering diversions - will be incorporated in due course. All dates quoted are inclusive, but services and timings are subject to further and short notice alteration at any time - particularly on public holidays. OpenTrainTimes and Realtime Trains websites enable checking for any amendments or short term variations to working timetable details for specific train schedules.

Southern Railway operated a reduced service throughout their network from 6 December 2016 until 23 January 2017 (when not strike-bound) with no weekday service between Clapham Junction and Watford Junction, and no service between Crystal Palace, Bromley Junctions and Beckenham Junction.

To receive automatic advice as pages are up-dated, use a web monitoring program, such as Follow That Page or WatchThatPage.

For Explanation of references and other general information: please refer to the Introduction. In appropriate cases, listings for weekdays are given separately from weekends.

There is no pay-wall for this facility - but if you use it, and find it helpful, you are urged to donate generously to a railway related charity: we suggest RBF - The Railway Benefit Fund is worthy of your consideration for donations - or a charity of your choice.

Wigan Station Junction (82) CL01
The connections between the former L&Y and L&NW routes at Wigan have a very marginal claim for inclusion here (and set no precedents), being little more than pairs of crossovers, permitting movements (a) between Wallgate station and Springs Branch (no booked passenger workings) and (b) between North Western station (platforms 1, 2 and 3) and Ince. The latter is used by a few trains running between Manchester and Wigan North Western not calling at Bolton. Note, however, that most First TransPennine Express services between Manchester and Glasgow or Edinburgh run via Golborne Junction - Lowton Junction - Parkside Junction (see next but one entry below).

Golborne Junction - Lowton Junction - Newton le Willows Junction (90) CL02
